Christmas Wish for David Lesejane

03 December 2008

It’s fitting that the Hear for Life Trust, which started out as a 94.7 Christmas Wish, will be performing a cochlear implant procedure during this year’s Christmas Wish initiative. 2008’s final cochlear implant recipient is 14-year-old David Tlhogi Lesejane, who had full hearing until April this year when he contracted meningitis and was left completely deaf. As he hadn’t grown up with a hearing impairment, he’d never learned to lip read, and doesn’t know how to sign. He has battled with communication so much that he hasn’t been able to go to school since his illness. Dr Hockmann, who will be performing the operation, said he hoped that they would be able to turn the implant on early next year, so that David could return to school. The operation will be performed between 2 and 2:30pm on Wednesday 03 December 2008.
