The Bidvest 94.7 Hear for Life trust will be performing another life changing cochlear implant operation on a young nurse.

Gugu Mngomezulu is a 28 year old nurse, living in Joburg. Gugu was nearing completion of her nursing studies in KwaZulu Natal when she contracted severe Multi Drug Resistant Pulmonary Tuberculosis, probably from exposure in the TB ward she worked in.

She was put on a very strong course of specialized antibiotics to treat her condition and an unfortunate side effect of this medication was that she rapidly lost her hearing. She is now profoundly deaf.

Although Gugu managed to finish her studies, she is battling to find work due to her hearing disability.
Dr Michael Mol and Dr Maurice Hockman have assessed her thoroughly and believe the operation will lead to an excellent hearing result.
